Presenters: Emily Good developed an interest in mushrooms in the Pacific Northwest, and attended some mushroom cultivation workshops when she came back to NY. In the winter of 2008, she witnessed the destruction of many beautiful trees on a neighbor’s land, and decided to turn the experience into an opportunity to learn about growing mushrooms. At the time of this writing, a pile of oak logs brimming with shitake mycelium sits at her family’s
cabin, waiting to bear delicious fungal fruit.
Carl Whittaker is long term resident of Ithaca and has been mushroom hunting since he was five yrs. old having spent those early years in the mountains of southern Arizona. He started picking for
restaurants here in 1986 and continues to make his living from it. He has been Teaching Associate in field Mycology at Cornell for several years and currently is involved in research in forest cultivation of edible mushrooms.
For those wanting to take home a small log with spores, a small donation of $3-5 would over costs. Any further donations will cover Carl’s transportation here.
