- Fossil Hunt at Onanda Park
Have you ever wanted to go on a real live fossil hunt? Search
beautiful Onanda Park for traces left behind by prehistoric creatures.
Aimed at children 5 – 13 years old, but all are welcome.
Wear appropriate clothing and footwear for trekking through water
and over slippery rocks. Come with Kim Babcock, Sustainability
Coordinator at Finger Lakes Community College, to search the
beautiful gorge at Onanda Park for traces left behind by prehistoric
creatures.

of this new book by Shannon Hayes, also author of ―The Farmer
and the Grill‖ and ―The Grassfed Gourmet‖. Writer for many publications
including the New York Times, Shannon works with her
family on Sap Bush Hollow Farm in Upstate NY. The book is about
men and women who focus on home and hearth as a political and
ecological act; who center their lives around family AND community
for personal fulfillment and cultural change.

- Marty Dodge teaches at Finger Lakes Community College.
He has built and maintained hiking trails in N.Y.,
Maine, and Alaska. As well, he assumed major responsibility
for the design and construction of Nature Interpretive
trails including those at the Cumming Nature Center, Onanda Park and Sandy Bottom Park. Participants will hike along and observe constructed trails. They will be introduced to maintenance and use of trail construction tools including the McLeod, Pulaski, mattocks, machete, trail axe, rock bar and Abney level. Demonstrations will include chainsaw use for bridges and chainsaw construction. Participants will construct and improve trail tread on a steep hillside and install stone steps at switchback corners. Participants may bring their own
tools if they wish. Stout work gloves, long pants and long sleeved shirts are strongly recommended.
Participants should bring water and a bag lunch.
Participants must register ahead of time: limited to 12 people.
No fees; all donations will be given to the CSL.
