- Rochester Folk Art Guild Upper Hill Road Middlesex (off Rt. 364)
Selection, maintenance, demonstration and use of single bit axe, double bit axe, hewing axe, hewing dogs, crosscut saw, wedges, Swede saw, adz, bettle, froe and draw shave. After instruction and demonstration, participants will, using the above tools, fell a tree, buck the tree into log lengths, hew the logs into beams, and smooth the hewn logs with adz and draw shave. Participants may bring their own tools if they wish. Dress for the weather; bring a bag lunch. Marty Dodge is the present coach of the FLCC Woodsmen’s Team, a professional lumberjack, and Professor at FLCC.

A roundtable discussion around key issues of sustainable community development and the individual, social, economic, and ecological health of our neighborhoods. Topics include: walking communities, social networking, community organizing and localized food systems. Facilitators are Chris & Vicki Hartman, cofounders/ co-managers of the SWFM, and Ben Munson, a member of the Wedge Planning Board and is organizer of a Wifi network in the Wedge to bridge and bring sustainable business to the neighborhood, who with his partner, Kristin Cox, shares a vision of an urban sustainable living center.
